BREAKTHROUGH FOUNDERS | INTERIM RESULTS

Finding strong companies. Helping more founders reach capital.

Breakthrough Founders brings together a consistent assessment and specialist founder pathways. Led by The200BnClub and delivered with Catalyst, Focused For Business and Mint Ventures, the programme was designed to find promising companies across the UK and help founders make measurable progress towards funding.

The interim picture

These figures reflect the interim point in the programme. Fundraising outcomes are still being tracked as companies progress.

The programme’s 45-company funding target remains a useful reference point, but these are live funding journeys rather than a final outcome.

One assessment method. Different starting points.

Applications spanned 26 verticals and stages from Angel to Series A. We assessed companies consistently, while matching questions, evidence requirements and benchmarks to their stage and sector. The assessment identified what each company had proved, what remained to be done and which support should follow.

Practical support, matched by pathway

Depending on the pathway, support can include a Fundability Review, VC Investment Memo, 90-day action plan, specialist sessions and mentoring, and investor preparation. Support varies by pathway and individual need.

Reach was national. Capital remains concentrated.

Breakthrough Founders aimed to reach promising founders across UK geographies, including women-led and mixed-gender teams. Interim results show applications and participating companies from across the UK. Recorded capital remains more concentrated in London and the South East, and this remains an important challenge rather than a solved problem.

60%

of initial applications came from outside London

61%

of companies reporting monetary funding were outside London

The distribution of reported capital is affected by one £10 million London-based biotech raise. Even allowing for this outlier, the interim data shows a material difference between the geographic breadth of the pipeline and the distribution of recorded capital.

£13.40m

Interim result: 29 women-led or mixed-gender teams received reported monetary funding.

What founders said

Excerpts from founder feedback describe practical value from the review and support process.

"Is it possible to give my co-founders access? It's really good and I'd love for them to watch the videos in their own time."

Kate Hofman, HeyPesto.ai

"For the first time since I started building, I got honest feedback on every aspect of my business instead of a polite rejection. The memo showed me exactly what blocks funding and gave me a concrete roadmap."

Marina Shmayger, Structed AI

"[...]we have participated in 7 to 10 accelerator and founder programmes, but I have to say that this curriculum has been particularly strong in identifying exactly where our challenges are. [...] This perspective has never really been communicated to us when we have received rejections from VCs, so it has been incredibly useful to understand what may be happening behind the scenes and how investors are viewing the business."

Wafa AlObaidat, Playbook

"We used their insights to create our entire investor package: a six-month conversion plan based on real pipeline data, refined pitch deck messaging, and a complete data room with KPI definitions, security documents, and sales templates. We improved from a 67/100 fundability score to a fully aligned, diligence-ready package in just a few days. If you're a pre-seed founder preparing for your next raise, Breakthrough is the sharpest mirror you'll find."

Ali Al Ramahi, Global Gaming Ltd

"In my three startup journeys, I've participated in 10+ accelerators including EY, KPMG, Barclays, NatWest, and Tech Nation. This has been one of the most practical and actionable programmes I've experienced. The sessions are very focused, realistic, and directly applicable. A lot of the frameworks can genuinely be implemented immediately."
